AMU chief medical officer commits suicide


Lucknow, March 15 (IANS): The chief medical officer of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) committed suicide by shooting himself Friday, police said Saturday.

The 59-year-old Mohammad Arshad lived in the Alinagar locality with his wife Anjum.

He was feeling low for the past few days, police officials investigating the matter told IANS. Police said Arshad shot himself with his licensed revolver.

Arshad's wife, a school teacher, rushed to his room on hearing the gun shot and found him lying in a pool of blood.

He is survived by a son, who is working in Gurgaon and a daughter, who is married and settled in Malaysia.

The deceased left behind a suicide note in which he blamed his depression as the reason for the extreme step.
