MAC Media Release

Canada, June 6: Starting small with gigantic dreams, MAC is now the driving power and strength to uphold and sustain the rich culture, traditions and language of Mangalore.  MAC, a motivated farsighted association launched in May 2002, was the brainchild of 15 unique dedicated families who migrated to and adopted Canada as their homeland.  All had strong roots and ties to Mangalore, a city along the Konkan coast of Western India.

MAC is a non-profit, non-political volunteer organization based in Mississauga, a dynamic city located in the Ontario province of Canada.   It is committed to not only preserving the Konkani culture but also establishing, maintaining and strengthening communication and relations with Mangaloreans in Canada and around the world.  MAC is also steadfast in its objectives: providing opportunities for leadership among youth, foster networking within our business community, assisting the disadvantaged and needy and recognizing the achievements of Mangaloreans internationally.

The MAC working group consists of the Executive Committee (EC) and the General Council (GC).  The EC is the top executive and administrative body of MAC.  Both the EC and GC are jointly accountable to ensure the smooth working of the organization.    Each member takes immense pride in fulfilling the responsibility assigned and maintaining cohesiveness within the association.

In a fair and judicious election conducted by the Election Commission, a new Executive body for MAC was chosen.  The Election Commissioners were Lydwin Lobo, Florine D’Souza and Vasant Salian.

The new members of the Executive Committee are:
President   – Maxim D’Mello
Vice-President  - Ronald Fernandes
General Secretary - Janet D’Souza
Treasurer  - Ivan Lobo
Cultural Secretary &
Youth Secretary - Herbert Lobo
Sports Secretary - Peter D’Souza
Public Relations
Director  - Ronald D’Souza

GC unanimously requested Clara Fernandes to continue in her role as an Auditor.
