Jerusalem, March 19 (IANS): The Israeli air force struck at Syrian army posts Wednesday following an attack near the Israeli-Syrian border in which four Israeli soldiers were injured, the Israel Defence Force (IDF) said.
"IDF targeted several Syrian army positions which aided and abetted the attack against IDF personnel yesterday (Tuesday)," Xinhua reported citing the statement of an IDF spokesperson, adding that the targets included a Syrian army training facility, military headquarters and artillery batteries.
An explosive device was detonated Tuesday targetting Israeli soldiers in the northern Golan Heights, wounding four soldiers. Shortly after the incident, the Israeli army retaliated with artillery fire at Syrian military positions.
"We will not tolerate any breach of our sovereignty or attacks against our soldiers and civilians," Israel's Defence Minister Moshe Ya'alon said.
