Taliban not ready for peace talks in Waziristan

Islamabad, March 19 (IANS): The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is not willing to hold peace talks with the Pakistan government in the North Waziristan area, said Mohammad Ibrahim Khan, a member of the Taliban negotiating committee.

He said that even if the Taliban were not approving the North Waziristan area as a probable venue for the peace talks, they wanted the Pakistan government to decide on the date and the location as soon as possible without wasting any further time, The News International Wednesday cited Ibrahim as telling Geo News.

Ibrahim did not say why the Pakistani Taliban was against North Waziristan as the venue of the peace talks.

But he added that the dialogue would not be delayed even if the Taliban’s proposals of army withdrawal from two districts of South Waziristan and the release of non-combatant prisoners were not accepted by the Pakistan government prior to the peace talks.
