32 nominations on day 4: Totally 167 in State from 111 persons

Bangalore, Mar 22: As many as 26 candidates submitted 32 nomination papers from different constituencies in the State on Day 4 since the commencement of filing of nominations for the coming Lok Sabha polls.
 
With today’s filing of nominations as many as 111 candidates have filed 167 sets of nominations papers from all the 28 Lok Sabha constituencies in the State, which are going to polls on April 17.

Among the prominent persons who filed nomination papers on Saturday are Aam Admi Party candidates M R Vasudeva from Mangalore, B T Lalitha Naik from Gulbarga, K G Shridhar from Shimoga, Ramesh Jigajinagi of BJP from Bijapur, R Dhruvanarayan of Congress from Chamarajanagar and G V Srirama Reddy of CPM from Chikkaballapur.

Thus, the BJP has fielded candidates in 13 constituencies while Congress in 14 and JD(S) from 4 with one from CPM.

Wednesday, March 26,  is the last date for filing of nominations.

Karnataka Chief Electroral Officer Anil Kumar Jhan, who briefed reporters in Bangalore on Satuday, said unaccounted cash of Rs 1.2 lakh in Puttur, Rs 26 lakh in Chamarajanagar, Rs 6 lakh in Byadagi of Bagalkot distrcit and Rs 2-16 lakh at Agadi Cross in Dharwad district was seized in the State on Satruday.

The total amount of cash seized since the commencement of the electoral process had touched Rs 1.44 crore, Anil Kumar Jha said.

He also said 148 sarees were seized in Honaganahalli of Kanakapura taluk, 63 sarees in Ramanagara, 17 T Shirts in Puttur, 4 music instruments in Mulabagal and 350 caps in Koppal were also seized on Saturday.
 
The chief electoral officer said the first round of inspection of the Electronic Voting Machines had been completed and as many as 62,020 control units and 78,890 ballot units have been kept ready. Randomisation of the electronic voting machines is being carried out in two stages to ensure the secrecy of the use of the electronic voting machines in different polling booths.
 
The CEO also said the total number of polling booths in the State this year would be 54,261, which would be an increase of about 4,000 from the last election.
