Vasundhara Raje hits back at Jaswant Singh

Barmer, March 25 (IANS): Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje Tuesday hit back at rebel BJP leader Jaswant Singh, saying party members should have the habit of accepting the decision taken by the party and its president Rajnath Singh.

"One should try to accept whatever the party does and should not leave it," she said while addressing a rally in support of Col. Sonaram, the party's candidate from Barmer, though she did not directly name Jaswant Singh.

Jaswant Singh, who had Monday filed his nomination as an Independent candidate from Barmer after being refused the party ticket, had attacked Raje and Rajnath Singh, accusing them of betraying him though he had recommended their names for the posts they now hold.

Raje said that party's candidate are selected after holding consultations with party workers. "During assembly election, we gave ticket to (Jaswant Singh's son) Manvendra Singh in place of Zalim Singh from Shiv constituency in Barmer and Zalim Singh never complained to us.... rather he whole heartedly supported party's candidate."

"One should learn from this," she said.

Raje recalled that over 25 years back, she was asked by then party leader Bhairon Singh Shekhawat to go to Jhalwar and fight from there.

"Since then I have always tried to maintain contact with my constituency and my people. Similarly Col. Sonaram has always maintained contact with Barmer," she added, in an another veiled attack on Jaswant Singh, who had fought and won the last Lok Sabha elections from Darjeeling.
