Sad about 2002 riots, but not guilty, says Modi in biography

New Delhi, Mar 25 (PTI): Narendra Modi says that he was "sad" about the 2002 Gujarat riots but has no guilt, and that no court has "come even close to establishing" it.

He has suffered 12 years of public "Modi-bashing" since the time of the riots but says that he had decided early on to "let the media do its work; there will be no confrontation".

"I never waste my time in confrontation", the BJP's prime ministerial candidate is quoted as saying in a just-published biography written by a British author and TV producer Andy Marino.

Marino says in the book "Narendra Modi; A Political Biography", published by Harper Collins, that he was given detailed access by Modi whom he accompanied aboard his helicopter during his campaign rallies and interviewed him over several weeks.

On 2002 riots, Modi says, "I feel sad about what happened but no guilt. And no court has come even close to establishing it."

The 310-page book deals with the riots in some detail with "hitherto unpublished, authenticated documents".

It discloses that after the riots Modi wanted to resign as chief minister but was prevailed upon by the party to continue.

Marino says that the BJP strongman had confided to him "possibly for the first time in an on-the-record interview, that he no longer wanted to be the chief minister after the riots because he had decided it was unfair on the people of the state who had been subjected to extreme abuse because of him".

What a noble soul speaks the truth.
He tried this experiment to a state and succeeded, now want to try throughout a country.

    God only save India.

I too feel sad while killing a chicken, but, not guilty. Modi, doesn't matter how much you say you do not feel guilty, but, deep within you, you hear your conscience cursing you. Who can run away from the tears of innocent infants ?

After seeing hatred fill comments on this post, whether Modi regrets or not, I am sure a lot of people are dying of anger and hatred, will continue to do so for the rest of their lives. It looks like people have no faith in courts and would only believe what suits them. I am not a BJP supporter not a Modi fan. But, I really admire his grit and determination in withstanding all kinds of criticism. Today he is very popular only because of hatred and viciousness that was displayed against him. Tomorrow if he becomes PM, which is likely, many are going to burn in despair or jealousy.

Love begets love. Hate begets hate. Modi is getting back what he has sowed.

When a bad person succeeds in acquiring money, fame or power (by hook or crook) all his/her qualities start to look good and get admired by many.

    History has many such cases.

It is unfair to blame Mr. Modi alone for these riots. There were earlier incidents which triggered public outrage, and the public outrage transformed in to these riots. Ever since India's independence, there have been many communal riots in congress party ruled states all over India, including one at Ahmadabad in 1985. All political parties should have a common agenda about the communal riots They should not instigate any community for their political gains and should have a common understanding to deal with such miscreants firmly as per the laws of the land, regardless of political party affiliations. 'Peacemakers will always Prevail'.

The 'disagrees' above confirms that the Modi wave is artificial. It appears that there are more people against Modi than for him.
Now, I just heard Rahul is introducing 'reservations' for SC,ST,etc. in the private sector with effect from 1st April.
    What's wrong with these politicians?.
This BJP & Congress cannot be trusted. AAP is another NATAKBHAJI. I feel President's rule all over the country is the solution as military rule is out of the question.
My vote is not that cheap to waste as none of the Party's worth it.
