Amritsar, March 26 (IANS): Taking a cue from a UN resolution calling for an independent probe into war crimes in Sri Lanka, Sikh group Dal Khalsa Wednesday demanded the world body intervene in the killings of Sikhs in the 1984 riots and the happenings in the Golden Temple complex.
Seeking justice for Sikhs affected by the 1984 incidents, the Dal Khalsa forwarded a plea on the issue to the human rights office of the UN in Geneva, Kanwarpal Singh, the organisation's secretary for political affairs, said Wednesday.
"Dal Khalsa secretary for human rights Prithpal Singh today (Wednesday) met Sabina Lauber, human rights officer in charge of Asia Pacific in Geneva and handed over the letter to her," he said.
The letter said that while Tamil human rights groups have succeeded in getting the attention of the world community and the UN, Sikh efforts have not had much success.
