New Delhi, Mar 28 (Agencies) : Congress's top guns Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul are likely to face a tough challenge in their pocket borough of Raebareli and Amethi. The BJP is set to field former Madhya Pradesh chief minister and firebrand leader Uma Bharti against Congress President Sonia Gandhi while its combative spokesperson Smriti Irani will take on Rahul Gandhi.
Earlier in the day, yoga guru Baba Ramdev had also asked the BJP to field Uma Bharti in Raebareli. "I appeal to BJP to place their strong leader Uma Bharti to fight against Sonia Gandhi in Rae Bareli," he had tweeted.
Party sources confirmed that Ramdev has talked about Bharti with top BJP leaders and made a request about her candidature.
Uma Bharti is presently scheduled to contest from Jhansi in the Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh.
Sources said this will help put up a strong fight to the Congress Vice President in Rae Bareli.
In Amethi it is likely to be a tough triangular contest as the Aam Aadmi Party has fielded Kumar Vishwas who has vowed to defeat Rahul.
Meanwhile, the Samajwadi Party has also changed its candidate in Lucknow. It has replaced its earlier candidate Abhishek Mishra with Ashok Bajpayee for the capital city of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.
