Congress slogan now is 'Mar Jawan, Mar Kisan': Modi

Baghpat (Uttar Pradesh), March 29 (IANS): BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi Saturday tore into the foreign policy of the UPA government and accused it of neglecting national interests. He also tweaked the "Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan" slogan.

Alluding to the alleged incursions by the Pakistan army and beheading of Indian soldiers in 2013, the Gujarat chief minister said while all this was happening, the Congress government was serving chicken "biryani" to the visiting Pakistan premier.

Addressing a well attended election rally in Baghpat town of western Uttar Pradesh, he further said that neither farmers not soldiers were safe under the union government.

Modi also rehashed the "Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan" slogan coined by late prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri.

He said Congress' new slogan is: "Mar Jawan, Mar Kisan". Alleging that the faulty policies of the UPA government had created problems for the farmers and the poor, he also urged people to vote for Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Baghpat candidate Satyapal Singh, former Mumbai police commissioner.

Attacking union civil aviation minister Ajit Singh, the incumbent MP, for ditching the policies of his father, late Charan Singh, Modi said the Rashtriya Lok Dal has deviated from his father's pro-farmer policies to sit in the lap of power.

He also took on the Samajwadi Party and said Uttar Pradesh has been thrown into despair due to the wrong policies and misgovernance of the state government.

"The government of father-son, uncles and auties has destroyed the state," he said, referring to rising crimes against women and girls.

The Gujarat chief minister said this was the reason why seasoned police officials like Satyapal had been fielded from Baghpat.

"I am certain that we will form a government at the centre soon but I want lotus to bloom in Baghpat as well" he added.
