Drugs valued over Rs.25 crore recovered, one nabbed


New Delhi, March 29 (IANS): A youth was arrested with 8 kg of heroin valued over Rs.25 crore in the international market, police said Saturday.

Anumulagundam Somasekhar, 32, was arrested from the Nizamuddin railway station in the national capital Thursday following a tip-off while he was trying to take the drugs to Hyderabad.

During interrogation, Somasekhar revealed he has an MBA from a Hyderabad institute and took to delivering drugs after suffering heavy loss in his earlier business of stone-crushing.

He met a non-resident Indian named Rajni, who after knowing about his financial crisis offered him to pay Rs.1 lakh per kg of drugs for delivering the consignment at a specific destination.

"He accepted the offer and became part of the illicit trade as he was in financial crisis and needed money," said Additional Commissioner of Police Ravindra Yadav.

He also revealed the module of drug traffickers have network in Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Gulf countries and are operating an international racket of organised crime.

A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against Sekhar and further investigation into the case is on, said Yadav.
