Pakistani Taliban extend ceasefire by 10 days

Islamabad, April 4 (IANS): The Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has decided to continue the peace talks with the Pakistan government and has extended the ceasefire by 10 days till Aporil 10, media reported Friday.

The Pakistan government had announced Thursday that it had released 19 non-combatant Taliban prisoners as a goodwill gesture for bolstering the peace process, The Nation reported.

The TTP said that it was important for the government to implement the demands made by the militant group in order for them to also honour the government's wishes.

The 19 non-combatant prisoners belong to the Mehsud tribe.

The Pakistan government, however, earlier Thursday denied reports that TTP prisoners had been released in an effort to revive the peace talks.

The TTP had announced a month-long ceasefire which expired on March 31.
