Guatemalan police nab teen suspected in 10 murders

Guatemala City, April 5 (IANS/EFE): A teenager suspected in at least 10 murders was arrested Friday in the Guatemala capital, police said.

Hector Antonio Florian Ramirez, 17, was apprehended by police and investigators from the attorney general's office in Guatemala City's La Barreda neighbourhood, police spokesperson Pablo Castillo said.

Florian, the leader of a faction of the Mara Salvatrucha gang known as Piwis Locos, was turned over to juvenile court authorities, the spokesperson said.

Florian has been linked to 10 homicides, including the March 13 murders of two women, Castillo said.

Three other people, two of them minors, were arrested last week for that double-murder. Police seized two assault rifles and a pistol from those suspects.
