Next round of Pakistan government-Taliban talks being planned

Islamabad, April 5 (IANS): Pakistani Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has convened a joint meeting Saturday between the peace talks committees of the government and the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The meeting will discuss matters related to the next phase of direct talks with the Taliban, The News International reported.

The Pakistan government had announced Thursday that it had released 19 non-combatant Taliban prisoners as a goodwill gesture for bolstering the peace process.

The TTP said that it was important for the government to implement the demands made by the militant group in order for them to also honour the government's wishes.

The TTP has extended the month-long ceasefire, which had ended March 31, till April 10.

The first round of direct talks between the Pakistan government and the TTP leadership concluded March 26.
