Kasargod, Apr 14: A minor ship that had gone suddenly missing while transporting goods from Lakshadweep to Beypore port near Kozhikode was traced after a week since it went missing, with the help of an aircraft.  The ship was found floating in the sea some distance away from the seashore of the district.

All the five persons manning the ship are safe. The ship, M S V Nida, had unloaded goods transported from Mangalore Mangalore at Chettalat island in Lakshadweep, before beginning its journey to Beypore after picking goods from Lakshadweep. Within a day since the ship began its journey, its engine went dead. Strong wind that was blowing on the sea swept the ship in wrong direction, and it lost all contact with the outside world.  The ship, carrying its personnel, T Moideen (68) from Vadakara Kerala, T Murugan (42) and Manoharan (34) from Cuddalore Tamil Nadu, Nareshan Nashik Karva (53) from Jamnagar Gujarat, and Hussain Saleem Chamoodiya (42), had 50 tonnes of goods including copra, animal feed, etc.

A week-long search for the mini ship duly assisted by the Coast Guard, had not yielded any result. Services of a Dornier aircraft of Coast Guard were summoned thereafter. The aircraft found the ship that was sailing without direction mid-sea off Kasargod. The labourers, who were devoid of proper food and water since a week, were shifted to hospital after the ship was towed to the coast here.
