New Delhi, Jun 20: Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) activists led by Medha Patkar were detained as they staged a sit-in outside Congress president Sonia Gandhi's 10, Janpath residence demanding to meet her in connection with rehabilitation of Sardar Sarovar dam oustees.

Criticizing the government for not taking adequate steps to rehabilitate the displaced people, around 50 NBA activists demanding to meet Gandhi gathered in front of her residence and shouted slogans against the Centre.

Police took the protestors into preventive detention after they refused to move away from the high-security Akbar Road and took them to Parliament street police station.

"We asked them to move away from the place as they were holding the protest without permission in the high-security area," a police official said.
