New Delhi, Jun 22: Sub Inspector of the Delhi police was on Thursday arrested on charges of raping a young girl in North West Delhi locality and was dismissed from service with immediate effect, police said.

K B Jha, a Sub Inspector with Crime Branch, was arrested in an inebriated condition from the house of the victim in Sector 16 of Rohini area at around 3:30 am after she informed police about the incident.

The 23-year-old victim, hailing from Mumbai, has been living in the area with one Rajkumar, who police say is a tempo driver. According to the complaint lodged by the girl, Jha had been blackmailing and demanding money from her and her friend for the last few days and came to their house in an inebriated condition on Wednesday night and sexually assaulted her.

The Sub Inspector, posted in Prashanth Vihar, was dismissed from service after the incident came to light, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Tejinder Luthra told PTI. He said article 311-B of the Constitution empowers him to dismiss the delinquent officer without conducting a departmental inquiry against the accused.

The girl has been medically examined at the Bhimrao Ambedkar Hospital in North West Delhi.

The inspector, hailing from Bihar, was a resident of Ashok Vihar locality. A case has been registered at Prashanth Vihar police station.
