BJP leader Giriraj Singh surrenders, granted bail

Patna, May 6 (IANS): BJP leader Giriraj Singh Tuesday surrendered in a Bihar court in a case related to making hate speeches during the Lok Sabha election campaigning and was later granted bail, a lawyer said.

He surrendered in the judicial magistrate's court in Patna.

The court granted him bail after accepting his bail bond. He was out on anticipatory bail granted by the district court in the case April 25.

The court granted bail to him over his remark that critics of BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will be sent to Pakistan, his lawyer Janardan Rai said.

"It is a big relief for Giriraj Singh as a court here has granted bail to him," Awadesh Kumar, a Bharatiya Janata Party leader, said.

Three FIRs were lodged against him at Deogarh, Bokaro and Patna for his hate speeches. Last week, the Jharkhand High Court granted him bail in the case registered with the Bokaro police station.

Giriraj Singh is BJP's Lok Sabha candidate from Nawada constituency in Bihar. He is known to be a vocal supporter of Modi.
