Priyanka's assistant influencing Amethi voters: Smriti

Amethi (Uttar Pradesh), May 7 (IANS): BJP candidate Smriti Irani Wednesday accused Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's secretary of trying to influence voters in Amethi and urged the Election Commission to take note of the development and necessary action.

Irani said she spotted Preeti Sahay talking to some voters going inside the polling booth at the Thauri polling centre in Amethi.

She confronted Sahay and asked her what she was doing in the Lok Sabha constituency.

The Bharatiya Janata Party leader told Sahay that the poll panel has mandated that all people engaged in campaigning, other than the candidate, should move out of the parliamentary constituency a day before polling if they are not registered as voters there.

Asking Sahay to leave the polling booth, Irani said she will lodge a complaint with the commission on the matter.

She also lodged a complaint with the presiding officer at the polling station, accusing Priyanka Gandhi's assistant of trying to influence voters.

Officials intervened and asked both Sahay and Irani to leave.

Two days back, the family of Aam Aadmi Party candidate Kumar Vishwas was also asked to move out of the constituency as they were not registered as voters there.

Priyanka Gandhi's brother and Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi is seeking re-election from Amethi.
