Two Delhi Police constables attacked

New Delhi, May 7 (IANS): Two Delhi Police constables sustained injuries when they were attacked here Tuesday night while questioning a man wanted in several criminal cases.

Constables Ravi Kumar, 35, and Vijay Kumar, 41, were attacked around 10 p.m. Tuesday in central Delhi's Chandni Mahal area by the man and three of his family members, police said.

The man, Nadeem, was arrested from the spot. However, his mother and two brothers, who were involved in the attack, managed to escape.

"The constables were on patrolling duty when they saw Nadeem wandering at a secluded place. While questioning, he made a call to his family members who rushed to the spot and attacked the constables," Deputy Commissioner of Police Alok Kumar told IANS.

"The uniforms of the constables got torn in the attack. Despite the sudden attack, the constables managed to call the Police Control Room (PCR) for help and kept their grip on Nadeem though his family members managed to escape," said the official.

The constables were taken to hospital and were discharged after first aid.
