Patna, Jun 27: Congress has threatened to launch an agitation against Bollywood playback singer Udit Narayan and approach party president Sonia Gandhi if Ranjana Jha, who claims to be his first wife, fails to get justice soon.
This is the fourth time that Udit has failed to appear before the Bihar Women’s Commission in connection with charges of bigamy levelled against him by Ranjana.

The party's Bihar unit would also contact Maharashtra chief minister Vilas Rao Deshmukh for action against the singer, newly appointed state Congress women wing president and MLA, Sunita Devi said on Sunday.

She said she had already written to the Commission’s chairperson Manju Prakash seeking details of the case.

Udit has been called for personal appearance before it on June 28.

The Ranjana issue, Devi said, was an "insult on a woman's honour" and the party would hold dharnas and even gherao the singer in protest against the incident.

She also criticized the NDA government in Bihar led by chief minister Nitish Kumar saying Ranjana had personally met him but did not get justice.

"Check the statistics — crime against women has increased in the Nitish regime in comparison to that of Rabri Devi," she added.
