Raid at BJP office in Varanasi on poll eve

Varanasi, May 11 (PTI): A day before polling for the high stake contest here, Uttar Pradesh police and election commission officials today conducted search at BJP's regional office in the city and seized campaign material, prompting strong protest from the party.

A flying squad of the state police and EC swooped down on the party office amid a ban on all election campaign activities since last evening for the polls, where BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is pitted against AAP's Arvind Kejriwal and Congress' Ajay Rai among others.

Officials said that the action was taken to seize election campaign material as it had got information about such items being sent in large quantity from the BJP office here in the Sigra locality, despite a ban on poll campaign in place.

BJP leaders, however, claimed that these were unused campaign material and the party was not indulging in any campaign activities.

The seized items included T-shirts, pamphlets, badges, officials said, while adding that they found these products being transported from the BJP office.

The party leaders countered this with claims that the unused products were being returned to their respective manufacturers.

They alleged that the latest incident further proves the administration and election authorities' "partisan" approach against BJP and linked the raid to the local administration's denial of permission to Modi's rally here on May 8.

The election went off by and large peacefully in the country not because of arrangement by EC but only for the able Dist Administrations in various states.DMs/DCs deserve kudos for that.In Mangalore/DK DC Sri Ibrahim deserved special appreciation for conducting the elections impartially.
The highlights of election this time is that highest electioneering by BJP under the stewardship of Sri Modi who made a record unbeatable in terms of No.of road shows, meetings and Kms of travel. He is proved his ability as an organiser.Another notable factor is that there was secret effort by Congress mafias directly/through its allies and few stooges in the admn level to disrupt the efforts of BJP/Modi.They have shown their total frustration highest level everywhere. Now voting comes to an end today and citizens have exercised their franchise for a good ruling which has to be accepted gracefully be it BJP,Congress or otherwise.People are thronging for a change at Delhi.

These comments ,accusation of regional parties and regional parties retaliating to the comments and stating no support to NDA are all a sort of drama I feel. Because if the regional parties openly support NDA then they may lose minority votes. Once the counting is over then the real color will be visible. The Trio ladies were once upon a time allies of BJP. There is no permanent friend or foe in politics

"MODI never relied on regional parties and has no alliance in West Bengal, UP, Tamilnadu or Karnataka". This is because no regional parties here want alliance with Modi. Hence he is now wanting support from any party.

Sh Clifford, Mangalore - quite clear that you're not d on politics & alliances. BJP has tied up with Apna Dal and ISKP in UP, given them 3 seats to contest too. In TN there is a 'rainbow' coalition stitched up with PMK, DMDK, MDMK & three Dalit outfits - They are tipped to win 4-5 seats in TN. In WB BJP has alliance with Gorkha National Party & they are supporting Alhluwalia in Darjeling seat. But in Karnataka, yes they do not have alliances, but then two regional parties merged with BJP on eve of LS polls - KJP & BSR Congress. Now, please come out of well Clifford & accept the fact that Modi is formidable force in Regional politics. You may watch the exit polls or wait till 2PM on 16th May to buy digene or antacids to relieve acidity problems!!!

E.C. looks like deliberately taking such steps, which in turn provide substance to BJP for further criticize constitutional bodies, which is unfortunate. Modiji should never make remarks against regional party's, which are crucial in supporting forming a new government in the event of less require number.

I don't know whether to call those people happy or 'Sadists' when they say UPA-3 will come to power with the support of regional parties.
keeping BJP away from power is fine with me but pushing the country towards instability is beyond me.
Guys grow up. Don't be so much Sicular

Dr.Shankarnarayan, unfortunately Modi would not be able to reach magic numbers 272. Last moment all the regional parties refused to make post poll alliance with BJP. Modi will be the main cause for BJP's defeat at this time. If Advani, Jetley or Sushma is the PM candidate, some regional parties would support BJP to form the govt. But nobody wants Modi and he is untouchable for all. I am very happy to see UPA-3 is going to form the govt this time with the help of regional parties.

Just wait and see. EC is helping MODI to get more publicity. MODI never relied on regional parties and has no alliance in West Bengal, UP, Tamilnadu or Karnataka. Third front will vanish after election. Once BJP emerges as largest Party support will come pouring.Wait till 16th of May.

That is the reason advising, if BJP wins elect either Sushma or Jaitley as PM and don't say Modi Modi. Instead fry some capsicum podii

Dear Menezes, in the riots you are referring to don't forget 300 hindus also died.

You seem to have ive blindness. For you an entity that orchestrated 1984 is secular & others are killers just because they were in power when incident took place. There is no doubt that instructions for 1984 came right from Rajeev but very sad you guys dont see the reality

Mr.Menezes,Whatever the openion of minoritiy people, the name is Modi nobody can ignore.Yes Doctor has correctly said about Modi because he is knowledgeable and secular.Dont forget that Modi is ruling Gujarat since last 12 years with out any communal riot in the state and people have endorsed him three times. You have no right to insult people of Gujarat.Post Godhra rot what you people wrnogly say it as 'Gujarat riot' is a product of Congies by perpetuating riot in railway stn in Godhra killing many Hindu karsevaks returning from Ayodya.Post Goghra riot is only a retaliation by aggrived Hindu mob which a spontaneous action. Please alo remember that during Post Godhra riot Modi or his men did not instigate the people for indulging in riot as done by Congress people during 1984 anti Sikh riot of Delhi wherein prominent Congress leaders were in the forefront giving directions to the rioters.
You are anybody have no right to speak about private life of Modi, his wife or mother.Modi is a Chaiwala who became CM has not forgotten his past life and his family people are living a humble living. They never use his official position for their personal gain in any way. This is unique compared to Congress bosses everywhere.Be cool and wait for 16th May.....Be ready to accept peoples verdict gracefully.....
