Indian national held in Nepal on murder charge


Kathmandu, May 11 (IANS): An Indian national, accused of killing an engineer, has been arrested in Nepal, police said Sunday.

Dipankar Dutta from Kolkata, the prime suspect in the killing of hydropower engineer Laxmi Kant Mishra in July last year, was arrested by Nepal Police in the bordering town of Birgunj Saturday, police said. 

Nepal Police claimed at a press conference in Birgunj that they were able to apprehend the suspect with the help of their Indian counterparts. 

Mishra, 55, a resident of Lalitpur district of Uttar Pradesh, was reportedly killed by contract killers July 26, 2013. Police claimed that Dutta had taken money from Mishra to search for investment partners to investment in one hydro project in Nepal.

He asked Mishra to travel with him to Kathmandu in his vehicle registered in India and he agreed. 

Mishra's body was found near Birgunj. Police said they were preparing to charge Dutta with abduction and murder.
