Sonia, Rahul take responsibility for poor Congress show

New Delhi, May 16 (IANS): Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son and party vice president Rahul Gandhi Friday took responsibility for the party's worst ever drubbing in the Lok Sabha election.

Addressing a brief press conference after it became clear that party would be relegated to a poor 50-odd seats, Sonia Gandhi said: "We with all humility accept the mandate of the people and hope that the new government at the centre will uphold the unity and interests of the country."

"As president I take responsibility for the defeat," she said and also congratulated the new government without naming BJP leader Narendra Modi, who is set to become the new prime minister of India.

A smiling Rahul Gandhi said he wanted to congratulate the new government.

"They have been given the mandate by the people, I want to wish them the best."

"The Congress has done pretty badly, and there is a lot to think about...I hold myself responsible."

Acceptance of "peoples verdict and a promise to keep it going..." is a victory in defeat. As Congress party president and vice president have accepted peoples verdict, all political rivalry and bitterness can be forgotten, elected MP's can concentrate on India's rapid development, and lost candidates can work with their constituents to regain the confidence of voters. In a democracy looser by vote counts, cannot be fully written off, still have a say...

Indians are lucky to have a 'matured' democratic system. Indians have always voted to India's interest and the all the democracies world are proud of our peaceful democratic system.

It was nice to see Rahul Smiling, and that gave us hope that comedian inside Rahul is undamaged despite of severe thrashing in elections. We look forward to get entertained from Rahul in future, and sorry dear Kapil Sharma but Rahul is better standup comedian.

What qualifications do both of these processes? Nothing.. besides falsely inheriting the fancy surname 'Gandhi'. The Indian population are now educated to buy all this shxt. It was only in the mangalore coastal belt these had fans who were fascinated by their fair skin and called them 'princess' , ' Prince' etc. Anyways good riddance of bad rubbish. Hope they stay lost.

Congress party has not learnt anything from their previous defeats. Once they came to power in Karnataka, they started infighting for positions in the government and pleasing some religious leaders but did nothing much for the common man. In DK Moily and co were working behind the scenes to defeat Poojary and same in other constituency. I am really surprised a person like Yeddi has been re- elected by the people which means you loot as much as you want and people will forget in time and with money.

Whether you accept the responsibility or not,
Whether you accept the defeat or not,
Still the people will fix the responsibility on you for the defeat,
because even though UPA-II won in 2009 due to other factors, still you claimed credit for the Victory.

I appreciate Sonia & Rahul Gandhi for taking full responsibility of INC's worst ever performance. There was serious leadership crisis within congress. They have taken people's support for granted.
However, they now have sincerely with all humility accepted the mandate and congratulated new Govt.
    Good tradition, keep it up.

When leaders are in power forget the unity and interest of the nation.Forget, due to whom they have occupied the power seat and thinks that they above all...When they taste humiliating defeat in the election and come to senses understand what has really happened during their rule and why people rejected them.Whther these leaders confess their misdeeds now that they have used minority people for vote bank and never shown true interest in their real welfare, tried to divide the society on religious lines in various ways just to garner votes? This is the price paid by the oldest political party of 125 years of age for the undue favour extended to family members, engaged in mega scams of lakhs of crores, mismanaged the housing project meant for widows of soldiers died in Kargil war, interference in the PSUs affairs unwantedly for personal gains, approaching minority religious leaders for vote appeal, differential treatment for political parties in granting permission for rallies, religion based scemes like shady bhagya etc.,and accuse opposition for having doing "Zehar ki khethi" and what not.....
God has bestowed humans with great amount of wisdom and unless they use it for peoples welfare being peoples representatives, god will punish them one day in form form of Voters like they did now. There isno point in taking the responsibility now, instead be responsible and responsive always. That is the essense of life......
