43 nations witnessed elections under visitor's programme


New Delhi, May 16 (IANS): Representatives of 43 nations visited India under the Election Visitor's Programme conducted by the poll panel and wirnessed the 2014 Lok Sabha elctions that ended Friday, an official said.

Among the nations that participated in the programme were Namibia, Malaysia, Nepal, Uganda, Bhutan and several member countries from the Arab League.

"The delegates were divided into groups and each group was given a briefing at ECI (Election Commission of India), followed by field visits to an election location, again followed by a briefing and interaction session", said Rahul Sharma, under secretary in the ECI.

The states where these vistors were taken were Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi.

"In addition, ECI also facilitated visits to election locations by 30 trainees, who were undergoing training at its institute", said Sharma.
