Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 2: The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) has asked its Vigilance wing to conduct an investigation and submit its report by July 7 on Kannada actress Jayamala's claim that she had entered the sanctum sanctorum of Sabarimala temple.

The Vigilance cell headed by S P Ashok Kumar is likely to record the statement of Jayamala in Bangalore, TDB sources said.

The Vigilance had been asked to find out whether there was any prima facie evidence to support the actress's claim.

The priests and temple officials, who were working at the shrine in 1987 when Jayamala visited the temple, would also be questioned.

TDB president G Raman Nair said that the board would take a decision on recommending a judicial or Crime Branch probe into the incident at its meeting on July 7, taking into account the findings of the preliminary probe.

The state government had offered all assistance in conducting the probe, Nair said.
