Tumkur, July 3: The Forest Minister C. Chennigappa had a timely escape from a possible danger when the car he was travelling in caught fire due to a short circuit while he was proceeding to his farm house near Thyamagondlu in the district here on Saturday night.

The driver, who noticed the fire under the bonnet, sensed the danger and asked the Minister to alight from the car and later doused the fire caused by a short circuit in the battery chamber. Later, the Minister travelled in his escort vehicle.

Chennigappa was in the district participating in various programmes and was on his way to farm house in a village near Thyamagondlu when the incident occurred, his close associate and former Koratagere Town Panchayat President Venkatachalapathi said.
