Woman faces jail for killing tenants' dogs in Italy

Rome, May 21 (IANS): A woman in Italy could face 18 months in prison for allegedly killing her tenants' three dogs over unpaid rent, the media reported.

The 58-year-old woman is on trial in Treviso, 550 km from the national capital, for allegedly using poisoned meatballs to kill the dogs after their owners failed to pay the rent, The Local reported Tuesday.

The landlady left the deadly meatballs in the garden to be eaten by the unsuspecting pets, Tgcom24 quoted her tenants as saying.

The tenants had not paid the rent for two months after losing their jobs.

The landlady denied the charges and said she was in Naples when the dogs died.
