Moodbidri, Jul 5: “Being HIV +ve is not a curse nor it is a mortal sickness.  It is not even contagious like any other disease.  These people only need positive support from the society to live a normal life,” said Shanthi Noronha, secretary of “Deepajyothi”, an NGO at Udupi.

She was speaking at Shree College of Tuitions at Kayarmanj Complex here on Tuesday July 4.  She further said that she and her children had indeed gone through tough times.  “My children were mocked and ridiculed in the school for no fault of theirs but only because their mother was HIV +ve.  But I had the constant support of some of my friends and relatives who gave a hope for me to live,” she narrated.

At present Shanthi is working with 80 HIV +ve persons who are serving and helping each other along with Shanthi.

Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy member Jayanthi S Bangera presided over the function.

Shekhar Ajekar, principal of Shree College of Tuitions welcomed the gathering.
