Mangalore, Jul 5: A couple who had come to Tannirbavi beach for evening stroll was robbed of by a group of robbers on Monday Jul 3 evening.

Sudhir, a resident of Meenakali had gone to Tannirbavi beach for a stroll along with his wife on Monday evening.  As they were talking with each other sitting in their car, a group of 4 young men surrounded them and started enquiring them about their whereabouts.

Later one of them took out a knife and threatened the couple and asked them to give all money and ornaments that they had.  Another one tried to snatch gold chain from Sudhir's wife's neck.  But he did not succeed.  At last they fled the place with Rs 600 in cash which was with Sudhir.

It is surprising to note that the robbers who at first demanded the couple to give all their valuables, fled only with Rs 600.

It could be recalled that the then deputy commissioner of the district Arvind Srivastav too had faced the similar situation when he had gone to the beach along with his wife.  He had returned to the district after his marriage in his native land and on one evening had gone to the beach for stroll.  But a group of persons had surrounded them and snatched valuables including a handicam from Arvind's hand and fled the place.

But the police had managed to nab the culprits within a few days.  The locals say these kinds of incidents often take place on this picturesque beach.  But only a few are brought to the notice of the police.
