Udupi, Jul 6: The Udupi police have sought public to inform them about 3 persons who have gone missing in mysterious circumstances. While P C Jagannath, a goldsmith from Salem in Tamil Nadu went missing from his lodge in the city on May 20, Vasanth Bhakta and his brother Ganesh Bhakta, jewellers from Udyavar who had links with Jagannth too went missing from May 31. Ever since the police are trying to find out their whereabouts. But they have not been able so far.
P C Jagannath who hails from Salem of Tamil Nadu was engaged in the business of manufacturing finished gold ornaments and selling them to customers in town. On May 15 he came to Udupi in the same connection and engaged a room in Vyavahaar Lodge. He is said to have been in touch with his relatives in Tamil Nadu till May 20.
However, as per the lodge owner, the goldsmith locked his room on the May 20 and did not return till the next day, that is, May 21. Therefore he called up the relatives of the goldsmith in Tamil Nadu and informed them of the issue.
His son P Gopi came to Udupi on the May 24 and based on his complaint a missing case was registered under in the Udupi town police station. The police who took up the investigation made local enquiries and learnt that the watchman of the said lodge had seen the goldsmith go on a bike along with one Vasanth Bhaktha, a jeweller from Udyavar. This particular information was also confirmed by the statement of yet another witness who saw the two go towards Venkataramana Temple the same evening.
The police immediately picked up Vasanth Bhaktha on May 31for questioning, but nothing substantial came out of the interrogation and was therefore let off.
In a subsequent development, Vasanth Bhaktha along with his brother Ganesh Bhaktha absconded from their house the very next day leaving a suicide note. As there was no reason for them to abscond or even leave a suicide note, the police suspected some foul play in the missing case of the goldsmith P C Jagannath.
However another missing case of the two brothers Vasanth and Ganesh Bhaktha was taken up on June 1 based on the complaint of the mother of the two brothers. Since then Udupi town police have been on the look out for the three persons, and in one instance the two brothers Vasanth and Ganesh narrowly escaped from the police team in Bangalore which reached there to nab them.
As of now both the brothers are still eluding the police and the whereabouts of P C Jagannath are still not known. In case of any further information regarding the three missing persons S P Udupi may be contacted directly on the following numbers:
