Chinese state councillor meets Indian ambassador


Beijing, May 27 (IANS): Chinese State Councillor Yang Jiechi met with India's Ambassador Ashok Kumar Kantha to discuss bilateral ties Tuesday.

Yang conveyed the Chinese leaders' congratulations to new Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Xinhua reported.

Yang said China attached high importance to relations with India and is ready to work with the new Indian government to maintain high-level contact, strengthen cooperation and communication in all areas, keep the good momentum in developing bilateral ties, and contribute to peace and progress of Asia and the world.

Kantha echoed Yang, saying India's new government would continue a friendly policy with China and was looking forward to close cooperation with China to promote continuous development of the India-China strategic partnership of cooperation.
