Mangalore, Jul 7: Noted ayurveda doctor and scholar Hari Bhat (85) alias Subraya Bhat of Haleyangadi near here passed away on Thursday July 6 night.
Subraya Bhat fondly known as Hari Bhat by all was a household name for his effective medicine for children's diseases. People used to throng to him seeking medicine for their young children from all over. He also used to prescribe medicine for jaundice. Being a person of high values and convictions, most of the times he gave medicine free of cost.
He was the fourth child of Harinarayana Bhat and Gauramma couple of Hoige Gudde of Padupanambur near Haleyangadi. After completing his primary education at UBMC School, he studied Vedas at Shri Jnanashakti Subrahmanya Temple at Pavanje.
Thereafter he continued to offer his services in the same temple. Meanwhile he continued practicing ayurveda medicine. He was also a noted water finder in the undivided district of Dakshina Kannada. Over the years he had spotted water source for more than 2,500 wells, ponds in the district. He was also in the forefront of a many religious celebrations in the area.
He had been bestowed with honours by Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy. Chinmaya Mission.
He is survived by two sons and a daughter.
