Airport under army control: Ukraine

London, May 27 (IANS): Ukraine's interior ministry said the military is now in full control of the airport that separatists tried to take over in the eastern city of Donetsk after a day of bloody clashes, BBC reported Tuesday.

At least 30 pro-Russian separatists were killed when armed separatists tried to take over the airport early Monday in the city. Kiev said the army suffered no casualties.

Petro Poroshenko, who is set to become Ukraine's new president, vowed to tackle "terrorists" in the east "within hours, not months".

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov Tuesday again called on Poroshenko to stop military operations in eastern Ukraine immediately and implement a roadmap for peace negotiated in Geneva April 17, the report said.

Speaking at a news conference in Moscow, he said a "real war" was under way in the eastern Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
