Hope for expedited reconciliation process, Modi to Rajapaksa


New Delhi, May 27 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday told Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa that he hoped that the island nation will expedite process of national reconciliation which guaranteed justice for minority Tamil community, Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh said.

Modi told Rajapaksa that India valued her relation with Sri Lanka, she said.

"Modi told the Sri Lankan president that India valued her relation with Sri Lanka. He expressed hope that Sri Lanka will expedite the process of national reconciliation that involved justice and dignity for the Tamil population," the foreign secretary told media persons here.

India and Sri Lanka pledged for "greater connectivity", she added.

Rajapaksa was among the SAARC leaders who attended Modi's swearing-in ceremony on Monday.
