New Delhi, May 29 (IANS): The government Thursday defended its move to bring an ordinance to pave the way for appointment of Nripendra Misra as principal secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that proper procedure had been followed.
Answering queries from mediapersons here, Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu said "competence and proven integrity" were factors in choosing Misra for the post.
He also dismissed criticism by the Congress on the decision to bring an ordinance, saying that the opposition had no issue.
Misra, a former chairman of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, was Wednesday appointed principal secretary to the prime minister.
Naidu contended that there was a lacuna in the TRAI Act which barred any post-retirement government job for the chairperson or any other member.
"There was a lacuna in the act which has been rectified (through the ordinance)," Naidu said.
