Iran nuclear issue: Expert-level talks set for next week

Tehran, May 31 (IANS): Iran and six world powers will hold an expert-level meeting on the nuclear issue in Vienna next week, media reported Thursday.

Experts from Iran, headed by Baeidinejad, and the P5 1 group, namely Britain, China, France, Russia, the United States with Germany, represented by Stephen Clement, an aide to the European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, will meet to discuss details of a possible comprehensive deal on Tehran's nuclear programme, Xinhua cited Iranian nuclear negotiator Hamid Baeidinejad as saying to semi-official ISNA news agency .

Iran and the six powers have held several rounds of nuclear talks this year with the last meeting in Vienna May 16, without reaching any deal.

Western countries accuse Iran of secretly developing nuclear weapons and demand that Iran significantly scale back its nuclear programme and make it more transparent.

Tehran says it has the right to develop nuclear programs under the Non-Proliferation Treaty and its nuclear activities are for peaceful purposes only.
