Panaji, Jul 10: Law and order situation in the state ruled for the first day of Goa legislative assembly session, which began, on Monday afternoon.

The monsoon session, which began this afternoon, will continue till July 31.

The opposition benches today sought explanation from chief minister Pratapsingh Rane over deteriorating law and order situation in the state. "Police are accepting huge bribes on road…Police are not interested in solving cases and instead they are minting money on the road," leader of opposition Manohar Parrikar alleged.

The BJP legislators led by Parrikar attacked chief minister over gambling, rave parties, thefts in churches, temples and other issues.

The chief minister Rane said that all attempts are being made to ensure that the law and order situation is under control. "We have nakabandis during night to arrest the theft cases," he said.

The opposition benches, however, refused to accept ruling benches' contention and demanded that the senior cops should be pulled up for dereliction in their duties.

The chief minister assured that action would be taken in the cases, if they are brought to the notice.
