Pakistan protests to Afghanistan over militant attack

Islamabad, June 1 (IANS): Pakistan has lodged a strong protest with Afghanistan over a cross-border attack on a Pakistan military post Saturday by over 200 militants crossing from the Afghan side, media reported Sunday.

"During the attack, one Pakistani soldier embraced shahadat (became a martyr) while two others were seriously injured. A protest was lodged with Afghanistan and the matter was also taken up by our ambassador in Kabul with the Afghan foreign ministry," a Pakistan foreign office statement said, Geo TV reported.

"To repulse the terrorist attack, Pakistan troops responded with artillery and aviation support. Any allegations about shelling on Afghan civilians inside Afghanistan are incorrect. The Pakistan aviation only fired on attacking terrorists," the statement added.
