18 killed in bomb attack in Nigeria

Lagos, June 2 (IANS): At least 18 people were killed and 19 others injured in a bomb explosion in Nigeria, the country's military said Monday.

The powerful blast struck a bar in the northeast town of Mubi in Adamawa state Sunday evening, where a crowd was watching a televised football match, Xinhua reported.

All the injured were admitted to hospitals for treatment, Chris Olukolade, director of defence information, said in a statement.

A suspect, who was identified with the car used in planting the bomb, was arrested and being interrogated, he said.

It was not clear whether the Boko Haram, which has posed as the biggest security threat in Nigeria's north, was responsible for the attack.
