SIT on black money decides on roadmap after first meeting

New Delhi, June 2 (IANS): The Special Investigation Team formed by the government to probe black money stashed abroad met for the first time Monday and decided on a roadmap to proceed further as mandated by the Supreme Court.

The SIT, headed by retired Supreme Court judge Justice M.B. Shah, during the meeting discussed in detail the apex court's mandate and the modalities of proceeding further.

"During the meeting, detailed modalities of proceeding further with the Honurable Supreme Court mandate were discussed and the roadmap decided," said a finance ministry statement.

The next meeting of the SIT will be convened shortly to take stock of the follow-up of the decisions taken at Monday's meeting, it added.

The SIT was formed May 27 after the Supreme Court mandated deadline to constitute the high-profile team comprising top bosses of country's premier investigation, enforcement and intelligence agencies to probe the large amounts of money stashed abroad by evading taxes or generated through unlawful activities.

SIT vice chairman retired Justice Arijit Pasayat and top officials of 11 high-profile agencies and departments were present at the meet.

First, take steps to prevent further creation of black money.. The loop holes being, major in Real Estate dealings. Work out a National Platform which will furnish the rates of Real Estate in line with location, facilities and amenities. All payments to be in automated systems, accountable and transparent. Remove all loopholes in Real Estate dealings....that creates black money. Let us not to be selfish any more let us have concerns for our next generation, for whom let us start working for a clean tomorrow today itself...
