Udupi, Jul 11: Mohammad Sadik, president of Mallar gram panchayat near Kaup here resigned on Monday July 10 following charges of corruption levelled against him. However, his resignation has paved way for fight for president's post between Congress and BJP.
Owing to certain misunderstandings between members and the president of Mallar GP, monthly panchayat meeting was not held for the last two months. This has made way either slow progress or complete stop of some developmental works in the panchayat limits. Several members had laid charges of corruption against president Mohammad Sadik.
Disturbed and hurt by this Mohammad Sadik resigned from his post on Monday. Meanwhile he has denied all charges laid against him and said that he is ready for any enquiry. He also said that he has not resigned owing to any pressure but only because he wanted to stay away from the controversies and that he did not want the development works to come to a standstill due to him.
However, his resignation has given way for fight between Congress and BJP for next president's post.
