Maharashtra Konkan Association celebrates annual day

Mumbai, June 4: "The opportunity to help is a gift to human being. An intellectual person should adjust with each other and live. A person in his harmony of life he should live on serving the society, then only will he live a holy life," said St Jude church parish priest Fr Nelson Saldanha.

Recently, Maharashtra Konkan Association celebrated its annual day at the small auditorium in St Jude church, Andheri East, Jerry Merry.


Maharashtra Konkan Association president Walter D'Souza Kalmadi presided over the programme, Divo Konkani weekly magazine editor Lawrence Coelho, businessman John George Lobo, sSecular Citizen weekly newspaper editor Suzanha L Coelho were the other guests present.

Fr Nelson Saldanha who got a transfer order to Ghatkopar Pant Nagar, was honoured with a shawl, fruits and a memento for his work in Jerry Merry. Lawrence D'Souza Kammani read the honourary letter.

In the programme, Konkani poetry was held; John Mascarenhas, Cyril Castelino, Gerald D'Souza, Rita Albuquerque and Irin Takode presented their poems. Senior artiste and poet Harrybai presented a cultural programme.

Association director Benedicta B Rebello welcomed the guests. Founder president Leo Fernandes read out the report and thanked the well wishers for their support. President Walter D'Souza Kalmaadi presented a bouquet of flowers to the guests. Cyril Castelino compeered the show and general secretary Vincent Castelino proposed the vote of thanks.
