Siddaramaiah calls on Narendra Modi, DVS

New Delhi, Jun 4 (IANS) : Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah Wednesday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda in the national capital and discussed various issues pertaining to the state, an official said.

"Siddaramaiah called on Modi at the latter's office and congratulated him for becoming the prime minister. He also discussed issues pertaining to the state, including the language policy and the Cauvery river water sharing with neighbouring states," an official of the chief minister's office in Bangalore told IANS.

As Siddaramaiah could not attend Modi's swearing-in ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan May 26 due to prior engagements in Bangalore, he decided to meet the prime minister on his current visit to New Delhi.

The chief minister sought Modi's help in making teaching in mother tongue (Kannada) compulsory in unaided primary schools in the state, as the Supreme Court had recently quashed the state government's decision to that effect.

Drawing Modi's attention to the apex court's observation that the medium of instruction should be decided by parents and not by the state government, Siddaramaiah urged him to convene a meeting of all chief ministers to discuss the issue of imparting primary education in the mother tongue.

"The prime minister expressed surprise over the Supreme Court decision and said he would take suitable action," the official said, quoting the chief minister.

Siddaramaiah also asked the prime minister to continue with the Cauvery Monitoring Committee (CMC) in sharing of the Cauvery water by the state with Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry, and not accept Tamil Nadu's demand to constitute the Cauvery Management Board as the inter-state case was pending before the Supreme Court.

The chief minister met Gowda at the Rail Bhavan and discussed the pending railway projects in the state with him.

Gowda, who hails from Karnataka and was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Bangalore North constituency, was the second BJP chief minister in the state from August 2011 to July 2012.

"Siddaramaiah has prevailed upon Gowda to speed up completion of various projects, including surveys for new lines, doubling of tracks and introduction of new trains across the state, especially shuttle services connecting Bangalore with satellite towns," the official said.

The chief minister also called on veteran Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, who hails from Karnataka, and congratulated him on being appointed leader of the party in the Lok Sabha.

Kharge, who was Railway Minister in the UPA-2 government for a year since June 2013, was re-elected from the Gulbarga (reserved) constituency in the state.

Dear Siddaramaiah, please do not try to impose KANNADA on people of Karnataka. Instead first create enough opportunities for inclusion of these. WE all had to study in Kannada and ultimately, No GoVT was there to give us jobs in Karnataka and we had to go to other states, where they throw us out because we do not know English, the International language or the National Language. Siddu, We want to study all languages. We want to know whats happening inside India ourselves. We dont want anyone to do wrong translation of issues on this pretext. We need to know Kannada and definitely we need this. So First do your home work in a proper way and bring up solutions without harming or stopping the opportunities for our youth. So think wise, act sensibly rather than doing something for your own vote bank.

Kannada is not the mother tongue of all Karnataka population. Do not try to impose medium of education. Let the parents decide where their children has to educated from....You do your job of good governance, which our politicians conveniently forget once they come to power...!!!!???? Everybody born and brought up in Karnataka will learn and speak Kannada.

it was an alert for Siddu to be careful while commenting anything in future. he is at such a respectable position and how could he gave such statements like calling Modi as Narahantaka and all. That was the message. Not to make them fight. If you see my comment, I clearly mentioned sidduji can focus on priority stuffs than talking about language issue which 90 % of Kannadiga's are not much interested about. We are interested about infrastructure, law and order... which Sidduji shoudl focus about. I am sure he will get enough support from we people as well as central.

Siddu has rightly told DVS that Karnataka is not in a position to give 50% of the cost of new projects in Karnataka besides giving required land. Because in India except Karnataka, Maharashtra & Gujarat no other States are bearing even 1% of the cost of Railway projects in their States.
In other States the 100% cost of the Rly projects are borne by Railway dept only. Even for acquiring land for Railways the Central Govt/Rly dept is paying in other states. Then why only Karnataka State govt should bear half of the cost of Rly projects ? Why this Step motherly treatment to Karnataka alone ?

we knew such a day will come and Siddu has to salute Modi. He never realised it and today he is at the corner. Being at a position think twice before commenting something stupid. as he was calling Modi as a Narahantaka and all. This doesn't suit a CM of such a dignified state. Now, please forget about language issue and other stupid topics you look worried about... look in to the law and order in our state and also infrastructure and see what best your govt can do for this. Do something really great and bring some change. we definitley will salute you. Let the issue whether you have congress at central or not be kept aside. In your state, do the best so that next time you need not run house to house person to person begging for vote, people will vote for you. So, time for you to realise the fact and act.

Should respect the Prime Minister for his an authority and peoples mandate and place before him requirements of the State.
Prior to election, after the election are entirely different.
Placing States demand not pertinent to C.M., it is of people of the State.

When so many issues are pending in regards to the growth of the state in terms of infrastructure, security and so many other things, this CM of ours is busy discussing the language issues to the PM. When we thought we had a good CM, it was nothing but history repeated as we had one more dead at work CM. Dear Mr.Siddu, do concentrate on the betterment of the state rather discussing useless agenda's. Stop discussing agenda's based on language religion caste. Stop playing your trumpet based on these totally waste topics. Be a hero to the state and not to your community. Think wisely and act accordingly.
