Mumbai, June 6: The Evolution Grappling Indian Open– 2, second edition tournament, which is the first of its kind Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Submission Wrestling event in India, began on Thursday June 5 morning amidst an enthralled audience at Oberoi Mall, Goregaon. The highlight being renowned American wrestler J J Ambrose (also known as Superman) was the official referee for the event.
Day one had events such as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) (with GI) and the competitors fought in three age categories: sub-juniors (8-14 years), juniors (14- 18 years) and adults (over 18 years).
The event was conducted by team relentless- India’s leading mixed martial arts team at Oberoi Mall, Mumbai. This being the second consecutive year received an overwhelming response from states across Pan India level like Karnataka, Kerala, Delhi, Nagaland, Assam, West Bengal and Punjabs’ BJJ professional participants across various weight categories. This time more girls’ participation was seen across all categories. Mumbai girls- Tejaswini Parab and Sakshi Parab performed with top honors in their respective categories.
On the occasion, American wrestler J J Ambrose said, "This is a new sport for the Indians and it is exciting. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brings out the best in human beings, courage and triumph through adversity. I thank Oberoi Mall, Mumbai which is proficient in its efforts to bring the mother of martial arts back to India and promote this beneficial art form here. I am looking forward to seeing this sport grow and flourish in Mumbai and all of India."
The winners were awarded with medals and certificates.
