M'lore: Fishermen protest over murder of Gangadhar Pangala

Mangalore, June 6: The fishermen in the city got onto the streets demanding the arrest of Sathish Baikampady in connection to the death of Gangadhar Pangala who died in road accident under mysterious circumstances on May 14 while returning home from Mulooru on his two wheeler. 

"The police should immediately arrest Sathish Bykampady the prime accused in the murder of Gangadhar Pangala. The death of Ganghadar Pangala is not an accident but a murder. The police have already arrested three accused in the case, but have not arrested Sathish Baikampady who is the prime accused," said Yashwanth P Mendon, president, Mangalore Moghaveera Yeelu Pattana Samyuktha Sabha (R), Boloor.


"Gangadhar Pangala was an active social, religious, community leader and a good human being. He was inhumanly killed on May 14. People have come to know the true face of Sathish Baikampady," he added.

He also said that Sathish Baikampady is in exile; the police should arrest him. He said, "He had involved himself in various crimes. It is the curse of Urwa goddess to Sathish Baikampady. Police should take this case  very seriously and  arrest Sathish Bykampdy and his associates. We respect the constitution of India; hence we will not take law into our hands."

Advocate Ganghadar H said, "The police should also investigate how Sathish Baikampady acquired huge assets. He was involved in several such crimes and this issue should be taken seriously and a proper probe should be conducted."

Advocate Dayanath Kotian said, "Sathish Baikampady, who in exile after the murder of Ganghadar Pangala should be arrested immediately before he gets bail."

On this occassion Rajiv Kanchan president of Mangalore Hadinalku Patna Mogaveera Samyuktha Sabha, Vasudev Salian, Yathish Baikampady, deputy mayor Kavitha and several other leaders of the fishermen community were present.    

A memorandum was submitted to the home minister through the DC.

    This is a serious issue to be taken up not only by mogaveera community in particular but it is also the concern of whole society. A social worker doing good work for the community and so many other issues that concern with larger society. I mentioned earlier in your column in D K goondas are growing because nexus between politicians and underworld and few illegal business men. Today it may be Gandhadar but tomorrow they will target other social workers. The society at large should condemn this and together fight for justice and to achieve just clean society.
