Woman killed, two injured in Bengal accident

Kolkata, June 6 (IANS): A woman was killed and two were injured Friday when a truck lost control and rammed into a hut in West Bengal's Howrah district, police said.

Locals, however, said at least three people were killed in the accident in Shibpur when the truck lost control after being chased by policemen seeking money from the driver.

"A woman was killed and two have been hospitalised with serious injuries in the accident," Deputy Commissioner of Police Nishat Parvez said, adding no person was trapped inside the hut as claimed by locals.

Following the incident, locals blocked traffic and set ablaze a vehicle blaming the police for the accident.

A few of them also accused the police of baton charging to disperse the crowd, though the police denied the charges.
