Hisar burns at 46.5 degrees


Chandigarh, June 6 (IANS): Haryana's Hisar sizzled at 46.5 degrees as heat wave conditions intensified over most parts of Punjab and Haryana Friday.

The temperature in most places ranged from 44 to 46.5 degrees, met officials said here.

Hisar was the hottest in the region at 46.5 degrees, five degrees above average. Bhiwani recorded a high of 45.6 degrees while Ambala was boiling at 44.9 degrees.

In neighbouring Punjab, Patiala was the hottest at 45.6 degrees while the Sikh holy city of Amritsar and industrial hub Ludhiana saw the mercury at 45.5 degrees. All were four degrees above average.

Chandigarh, at a high of 44.5 degrees, was five degrees above average.

Met officials said Friday evening the weather will remain dry, sunny and hot in the coming days with the heat wave conditions intensifying. They ruled out any relief in the next 48 to 72 hours.

People preferred to remain indoors during the day time.
