A R Antulay blames Cong high command for party's defeat

New Delhi, Jun 8 (PTI) : In a not-so-veiled remarks targeted at Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, senior leader A R Antulay has squarely blamed the Congress high command for the situation the party finds itself at present. "We have been forced to see this day because of the high command," the 85-year-old leader said cryptically when asked by PTI as to who is responsible for the Congress tally nosediving in the Lok Sabha polls from 206 to just 44, its lowest ever.

The former Maharashtra Chief Minister in whose 2, Janpath residence the Congress-I was formed by Indira Gandhi, lamented that the party has come to such a pass that it cannot secure the Leader of the Opposition post on its own in the Lok Sabha.

A close associate of Indira Gandhi, Antulay initially was reluctant to talk on the issue of the electoral debacle of the party at the national level and in his native Maharashtra and how to turn around the party at this critical juncture. Congress has just won two out of the 48 seats in Maharashtra where it is ruling for the past 15-years in alliance with Sharad Pawar's NCP.

"What one can say when the high command itself is not appearing to be concerned," the former Union Minister said, when asked about the way ahead for the party.

Replying to a query, Antulay said he was sad that no one at the helm had contacted him so far to ask how the party could be revived when it has drawn blank in several states and has minimal presence in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

He said after formation of the Congress-I in 1978, Indira Gandhi had energised the party so much in those difficult times that everyone like him moved heaven and earth to see that it was in power in less than two years.

In 2009, Antulay, who was then Union Minority Affairs Minister, was defeated by Shiv Sena's Anant Gite, who was supported by the Peasants and Workers Party (PWP), in the Raigad constituency.

    A. R. Antulay in early 1980's had demonstrated his "Political ILL Knowledge" to the world by publicly and repeatedly saying that "India should opt for Presidential System in lieu of current Parliament system so that Mrs. Indira Gandhi can be elected LIFE TIME President of India and elections are NOT necessary". He has been a friend of Communist Soviet Union, and dictators of the world like Indira Gandhi. Good that Indians did not heed him, otherwise Indians would not have enjoyed present political system and freedom in India...

Do not keep on blaming each and every one. we do not need such kind of people in Congress. Instead start working out again to gather the pieces, that is, if you can find them. They are shattered all over India!! Best thing is to start anew.
I think it is better to remove all the guys at the top. They have become obsolete.
Call for a general meeting of all Congress and remove all those are not necessary and elect a new, energetic, knowledgeable with modernization in mind and those who can change some age old defunct laws. Do not give Rahul Gandhi any post with any responsibilities or it is better to leave him out completely.
Congress just now needs persons who are dynamic, diplomatic and well educated with good knowledge of politics\governance. Start grooming (you have 5 years for sure). They should be result oriented not just holding a ministry\post. If these things are not done, I do not think Congress can compete BJP with Modi at the helm. He is on the right path so far and we have to only wait and see the results in a few months\ a year on. He has a vision ... hope that vision does not get entangled with something foolish in the future.
Keep your mind focused on your goal...to return to power.

Failure and success is part of Politics.
When Congress and its torch bearers became so lethargic and unrealistic, obviously they had to loose.
Old age saying is will always be true that absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Therefore it is imperative that there should be strong opposition to ruling BJP.
Fear of loosing will keep them in tenterhooks and compel them to work, which is beneficial to the party and people of the Country.
That is the beauty and formula of democracy.

Antulay,, You dont blame anyone. The common man is now educated and have lost faith with the Cong. Numerous scams, A gutless PM, Antaino Maino Khan & Raul Vinci Khan calling the shots, Fake appeasement to minorities, vote bank politics, hate mongering, False promises. So Congi was not elected. Now lets wait and see, if Modi & Co do not deliver they will receive the same treatment. At the end of the day its the people of India.

Dear Mr.Lingappa,You are absouletely right in citing the reasons of Congress defeat.More prominently,Hindustan was on the verge of loosing its very identity due to the policies perceived by the sickular Congress. This led to consolidation of votes by all patriots irrespective of caste, creed ,color and religion across the nation.Namo was only the motivation and not necessarily BJP/allies in the crusade.India is now in safe hands...we are liberated from dynastic, communal.caste oriented, cunning sickular Congress.

Rahul Gnadhi wants an unstructured job so that he can do holiday trips with his GF to foreign countries whenever he wants.

That is why he denied to accept ministerial post when his party was ruling. For the same reason he denied to become Floor Leader of Lokasabha for his party. He does not like any commitments in life, even for marriage he said NO.

He was in India for continuous 45 days only during election time. On May 12th evening he fled to foreign.

But knowing this, congis committed suicide by handing over the leadership to him. Can such irresponsible person lead a family, forget country...
