Mangalore, Jul 14: The Dakshina Kannada district has been receiving constant rains from Wednesday July 12 evening.
While normal life in the district was disrupted, vehicles plying between Bangalore and the city were diverted via Beltangady-Gundya route. KSRTC buses plying from the city and Bangalore were diverted to Sullia-Madikeri route, to prevent landslides.
The district administration reported of increase in water-level in Nethravathi and Kumaradhara rivers, though it is below the danger-level.
Few houses were reported to have been damaged owing to the continuous showers.
The NH 48 was barely accessible for more than 24 hours, as the workers tried to clear off a tanker that skidded near Udane on Thursday.
While life on the roads was not spared, traffic in the sky was not far behind. A Jet Airways flight had to return to Mumbai as it could not land at Bajpe airport even after two attempts. The Kingfisher airlines from Chennai and Alliance airlines also returned after they could not land at the Bajpe airport.
